Established in 1981 thanks to a historic popular movement, it was Sicily's first nature reserve. A seven-kilometer stretch of wild coastline connecting San Vito Lo Capo to Scopello, offering landscapes where the intense blue of the sea meets the green of the Mediterranean scrub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here you won't find paved roads or cars, just the sound of footsteps on the trails and the song of cicadas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The trails: exploring the Zingaro Nature Reserve on foot<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The reserve offers trails suitable for different levels of experience, allowing visitors to discover corners of Sicily that would otherwise be inaccessible:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Coastal Trail:<\/strong> The most popular route, ideal for those who want to reach the coves. It connects the southern entrance (Scopello) to the northern entrance (San Vito).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mezza Costa Trail:<\/strong> perfect for enjoying breathtaking views from above and visiting small rural villages.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>High Trail:<\/strong> For experienced hikers, it offers a 360-degree view reaching up to 913 meters above sea level.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Calette dello Zingaro: a dreamlike setting steeped in ancient history<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to its flora (with over 650 species of plants, including the famous dwarf palm), the Zingaro Nature Reserve is home to historical treasures and spectacular beaches:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Cala Tonnarella dell'Uzzo and Punta della Capreria:<\/strong> white pebble beaches lapped by water so clear it seems transparent.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Uzzo Cave:<\/strong> one of the most important prehistoric sites in Sicily, where signs of settlements dating back to the Paleolithic and Mesolithic periods have been found.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The Reserve Museums:<\/strong> Along the way, you can visit the Natural History Museum, the Maritime Activities Museum, and the Museum of Rural Life, which recount the hard but fascinating lives of those who once lived in these places.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Local traditions and crafts<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Reserve is not only about protecting the environment, but also preserving traditions. Even today, the art of weaving <strong>dwarf palm leaves<\/strong> (known as \u201cgiummara\u201d) and<strong>ampelodesma<\/strong> (\u201cddisa\u201d) to create bags, hats, and baskets is still handed down.
